I was sitting in a park and I looked up to see some nests high up in a tree,
and a number of these guys. Lynda McDonagh tells me this is a monk parakeet.

A few streets in the old city have been turned into pedestrian streets, which is nice because one of the downsides of this part
of town is narrow and broken side-walks. Sarandi is the major pedestrian street, running almost the length of this part of town.
I don't know what the shop on the right is selling, and didn't want to ask.
Below, inside a book store and cafe on Sarandi. The building dates from 1917--like many buildings here the date and name
of the architect are displayed on the front of the building. Outside of the store Sarandi ends at the old city gate at Plaza Independencia.

In the 1970's I often visited Savannah. That was before people started renovating and restoring buildings. Ciudad Vieja reminded me of that. There are many buildings for sale and many vacant buildings mixed in with some nice places, like the one where we stayed. I wouldn't be surprised if the area gets gentrified.....One thing Montevideo doesn't lack is parks and statues. I could post many shots of those, and of architecture, but I'll restrain myself.
