Montevideo: the old city
We bused from Colonia to Montevideo on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The countryside is a lot like Piedmont Georgia except for the palm trees. Our bus had wi-fi! But it also had the only unpleasant person I had to deal with on the trip--the woman in from of me was disgruntled when I objected to her reclining her seat into my knees. My knees always take a beating on planes, but the other buses I traveled on were quite roomy.
I thought I hadn't taken many pictures in Montevideo since I had been there the year before. This is a link to the earlier Old City page.

Our home at Francisco Maciel 1355. The living room seen from bathroom landing. The bathroom was the only room upstairs--it was an old building which had been renovated into flats. The courtyard leading to other apartments. There was a school across the street and one a few doors down. A man sat in the doorway of the building across the intersection talking all day, and often people singing on the sidewalk, but it quieted down at night. |
Saturday market at Plaza Constitución (Constitution Square), also known as Plaza Matriz. Some of the vendors are there
every day. Below, a string trio playing by the square on Sunday. The cello player was more adept than the others.
