Of course, taking photos in museums generally isn't allowed. I also went to the photography museum and
the home of Fructuoso Rivera, Uruguay's first president. I've lost track of how many museums I visited on this trip.

There are a lot of museums in Montevideo. The Museum of Decorative Arts is a 1910 mansion chock full of paintings, furniture, tapestries, and even a period bathroom. The architect was French, and instead of an interior courtyard, the house has a garden (top of the page.)
The Romantic Museum is another residence, this one with a courtyard. Here the first movie in Uruguay was shown in 1896. |
