Sunday morning in the old part of Colonia is very quiet.
Colonia del Sacramento
Puerto Viejo, a marina seen from our window. It was Sunday, and by low timed most of the boats were out on the Rio de la Plata.(And to clarify, it is more of a bay or estuary than a river--it's so wide you can't see the other side.)
Colonia was founded by the Portuguese in 1680 when they were pushing south to challenge the Spanish for the area. It changed hands eleven times before finally becoming part of Uruguay.
Looking back I see that there were a lot of things in Colonia I didn't get to see...
like the bullring that was built two years before bullfighting was outlawed and now is a ruin.
